Madame Tussauds Opening in Blackpool

Marie Tussaud, was born Anna Maria Grosholtz (1761–1850) in Strasbourg, France. Her mother worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Philippe Curtius in Bern, Switzerland, who was a physician skilled in wax modelling. Curtius taught Tussaud the art of wax modelling.

Famous for opening wax figure museums in major cities around the World Blackpool will get its very own ‘Madame Tussauds’ opening later this Month.

Date For Nickelodeon Land

The Grand Opening of Nickelodeon Land will take place on 4th May 2011. The opening ceremony for members of the press and media will take place in the morning. The area will be open to the public no later than 2pm.

Nickelodeon Land is scheduled to be open for EXCLUSIVE previews from a date in April to be announced. Keep an eye on nickelodeonland.com for updates.

Based on characters and shows from the world's most popular network for kids, Nickelodeon Land is loaded with 12 fantastic rides designed to thrill and entertain the whole family.

Rides include SpongeBob's Splash Bash, where you have the opportunity to turn water jets on your friends and blast pesky jellyfish with water for a splashing time.

The Avatar Airbender lets you join Aang on an amazing adventure, spinning and soaring through the air on a giant disk.

The Rugrat's Lost River is a rollicking flume ride where you join the Rugrats on their quest to find the mythical Temple of Spoon.

Pleasure Beach, Blackpool, is delighted to announce the launch of Nickelodeon Land which will open at Britain's favourite tourist attraction in April 2011. Nickelodeon Land represents an investment of £10.3m.

This collaboration between Pleasure Beach, Blackpool and Nickelodeon, the number one entertainment brand for kids, will see a 6 acre area of Pleasure Beach transformed into Nickelodeon Land, which will feature 12 rides, 7 are brand new and 5 are extensively re-themed existing rides. Nickelodeon Land also includes themed retail and catering outlets.

New rides include SpongeBob's Splash Bash, which is an interactive ride where riders have the opportunity to turn the jets onto their friends and blast pesky jellyfish with jets of water for a splashing time. Work on Nickelodeon Land will commence in the Autumn of 2010 and is scheduled to open in April 2011.

New Look Blackpool Tower

Once Merlin takes over, construction work will start on a new Dungeon attraction which is due to open next September, with a "Horrible Histories" theme based on the Witches of Pendle and Cromwell.

Merlin is also transforming Louis Tussauds into brand leader Madame Tussauds with waxwork figures remodelled for new displays heavily influenced by TV and "everyday heroes."

For the first time ever, people will access the Tower for free, paying instead for individual attractions, with linked tickets to encourage people to linger longer. New ticketing arrangements could be in place by February.

"It will take time, but it will happen," added Mr Hawkins.

"Blackpool will move forward. No other place, other than London, in our UK operations, has such a high concentration of attractions. It makes me immensely proud. I'm just blown away by it all. Blackpool will be the template for tourism in this country."

Mr Hawkins, who has moved to the Fylde, takes over the reins at the Tower on November 8. A team from Merlin has been working with the council since the deal was announced in spring, and refurbishment work has already started, including repairs to the roof of the Tower Ballroom.

The Tower boss, who started his career on fish farms in Scotland and spent a spell in Blackpool washing windows and feeding fish at the Sea Life Centre, is full of praise for the council which secured the Tower and other attractions in a 40m Government-backed deal earlier this year.

"In all my experience of dealing with local authorities across Britain I've never come across a council as far sighted and visionary as Blackpool. I've worked with 14 resorts and cities and none of them come close to the level of commitment here.

"They have been brave and audacious and good landlords. In bringing in funding to buy the most iconic building in this town they have shown they will do what it takes to protect tourism.

"Merlin has operations across the world, and new attractions opening all the time, but Blackpool is very special to a lot of our senior managers. I started out here, on work placement.

"The whole marketing team is working on what is best for Blackpool nationally and internationally.

Tussauds will open next April, between others opening in Bangkok and Vienna, becoming the 11th member of the international clan.

The new top of the Tower observation experience with 4D cinema is due to open by Easter 2012, if not before. Plans included extending the Walk of Faith by making more of the suspended walkway see through.

Promenade Work Progressing

Blackpool’s Promenade has been undergoing a transformation over the last four years and Blackpool Council is now geared up for the last push to transform the seafront forever promising the best is yet to come.

The final phase of work taking place between November and June will see the new sea defences built, a new tramway laid, an iconic wedding chapel created, an outdoor events arena for 20,000 people, must see public art and new pedestrian access to the Promenade. Already new headlands and parades have been created. The versatile space provides much needed events space on the Promenade for everyone to enjoy. In addition to the new headlands, the parades that connect them have also transformed the appearance of the Prom. For the first time ever landscaped areas have been introduced that allow people to sit on the grass and enjoy the sunshine.
